Poems

Not Anymore

womensafety

I have written this poem in vague of the ever-increasing crimes against women. I have just tried to sum up how the times have changed for us the womenfolk. This poem is not directed against all men. By men I mean only those henious human beings who think that women are their property and they can inflict any harm on them without hurting their own conscience.

There was a time…
We could travel without worry anywhere
We were comfortable in coming home at night alone
We were comfortable travelling in public transport late in the night
But not anymore

There was a time…
We were comfortable in office
We could trust our colleagues
We could make acquaintances and friends easily
But not anymore

There was a time…
We could trust strangers for help
We could trust our school and college teachers
We trusted doctors, postmen, auto and bus drivers, delivery boys.
we could invite a stranger at our doors, inside for a glass of water
But not anymore

There was a time…
We told our daughters to trust others
We were relaxed when our daughters worked late in the night
We were somewhat assured of our daughters’ safety
But not anymore

There was a time…
We could stay alone in our houses without fear
We felt safe in our surroundings
But not anymore

There was a time…
We could trust men
But not anymore
